Sean O’Brien, a RADIANS Ph.D. student, took second place in the 2015 Institute of Nuclear Materials Management student paper competition. Sean will receive the J. D. Williams Student Paper Award, a $500 prize, and his paper, entitled “Sensitivity Analysis and Uncertainty Quantification of Neutron Multiplicity Statistics using Perturbation Theory,” will appear in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Nuclear Materials Management.
Sean is developing new methods of sensitivity analysis and uncertainty quantification (SA/UQ) that will enable future evaluation of fundamental nuclear data using subcritical neutron multiplicity counting experiments. His Ph.D. research is supported by the Consortium for Nonproliferation Enabling Capabilities (CNEC).
